Tea export situation
According to customs statistics, from January to March 2025, China’s tea exports of 101,000 tons, the amount of 350 million U.S. dollars, rose 17.1% and 7.0%, the average price of 3.5 U.S. dollars / kg, a year-on-year decline of 8.6%.
The export of green tea (88,000 tons), black tea (6,363 tons) and jasmine tea (1,807 tons) showed a rising trend, with black tea showing the biggest increase of 24.4%. Oolong tea (3,384 tons), ripe (296 tons), black tea (98 tons), white tea (95 tons), other flower tea (22 tons) exports were downward trend, black tea exports fell by the largest amount of 31.9%, the amount of white tea, the average price fell by the largest amount of 61.8% and 59.5% respectively.
Tea export market ranked the top 10 are Morocco, Ghana, Uzbekistan, Senegal, Russia, Algeria, Mauritania, Côte d’Ivoire, Germany, Libya. The number of exports to Morocco (23,600 tons) and the amount ($71.34 million) increased by nearly 50%; exports to Côte d’Ivoire (3,064 tons), the amount ($12.33 million) of the largest year-on-year increase, respectively, amounted to 1,223.6% and 1,247.9%; exports to Ghana (75.28 million tons), the amount ($29.53 million) the largest drop, respectively, amounted to 35.3% and 36.5%.
Tea imports
According to customs statistics, from January to March 2025, China imported 13,047 tons of tea, amounting to $39.8 million, up 40.2% and 27.1% year-on-year, respectively, with an average price of $3.1/kg, down 9.3% year-on-year.
Black tea (10,706 tons), green tea (2013 tons), other flower tea (41 tons) imports showed growth, green tea imports, the largest increase in volume and value of 158.2% and 154.5%; oolong tea (265 tons), Maté tea (21 tons), jasmine tea (1 ton) imports showed a downward trend in imports of jasmine tea imports, the largest decline in volume and value of 82.3% and 67.1% respectively.
Tea imports market ranked the top 5 are Kenya (2,875 tons), Vietnam (2,563 tons), India (2,545 tons), Sri Lanka (2,466 tons) and Uganda (496 tons), the volume of imports from Kenya, the amount of the largest increase of 125.6% and 172.4% respectively.
